The Lear Center's Hollywood, Health & Society project, in conjunction with the Centers for Disease Control, worked with ABC to provide an informational title card at the end of the debut episode of ABC's new legal series Eli Stone. The show's storyline involved the case of a mother who blamed the preservative in a childhood vaccine for her son's autism and was suing the vaccine maker. Although a highly controversial topic, the best available science has not found a link between vaccines and autism. After a disclaimer by the show, a card directing viewers to CDC resources was shown, so viewers could find more information on autism and the overwhelming safety of and need for childhood vaccines.
