The iViva Yiddish! Project

KlezmerMusico.jpg Latin American and Yiddish music have flirted with each other throughout the 20th century. The ¡Viva Yiddish! Project: The Yiddish-Latino Sound of Los Angeles will celebrate the rich interplay of contemporary Yiddish and Latin American cultures with this world-premiere concert.

The ¡Viva Yiddish! Project will present ear-blowing fusions of klezmer, pachuco, 1950s mambo, banda and more, played by a world-class collective of more than a dozen musicians. The all-star creative team includes Frank London (Klezmatics, Hasidic New Wave, Klezmer Brass Allstars), Josh Kun (LA-based writer, critic, director of the USC Norman Lear Center's Popular Music Project, and professor at USC), Michael Alpert (Brave Old World, Yiddish music scholar), and famous surprise musicians including a special guest appearance by Mike Burstyn. Hosted by Grand Performances at California Plaza.
