If 41% of America is conservative, as our national survey found, doesn't that mean that the country leans to the right? Actually, no. The Lear Center crunched the numbers from an extensive survey we conducted in August 2008, with Zogby International, and the results were fascinating. We found that one in four Americans occupies the ideological center in this country and when they are asked to choose between liberal positions and conservative ones, they lean to the left. The result? A portrait of our nation a little blue about the gills.
